About Me

My name is Constantinos Bacas, a second semester Masters student at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. I am currently working to attain a Masters in Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree and pursuing a career as a physician. I love learning about biology, especially the immune system and infectious disease. One thing that annoys me the most is when the news media and popular press overstate the problems associated with an emerging infectious disease. The fearful language and pictures can insight panic in many people who are unfamiliar with all of the details about a disease. I created Disease Detective to help everyday people understand some of the pressing health issues facing us today and in the future, without using fear-tactics. By finding information from reputable sources, reading the primary literature associated with the news stories, and looking into the details of a disease, I am  able to present the facts without the fear.
